I totally understand your pain--I made a pair of socks once and when I blocked them, they grew...and grew...and grew...basically, they would fit someone with a size 5 billion foot perfectly. (If you would like to borrow Stephanie's Knitting Rules, I know she has basic recipes for socks &amp; hats in it, and possibly mittens, you totally can. Yes, I have all of her books. And one audiobook. I might be a little bit obsessed.) My first mittens were also too big. They fall off my hands if I wear them. I used &lt;A HREF="http://www.freevintageknitting.com/mittens/615-mittens-pattern.html" REL="nofollow"&gt; this&lt;/A&gt; pattern for worsted weight yarn and I thought it was fairly easy to understand (aside from the whole gauge issue...whoops!). Okay, I'm going on too long, but I too covet the Folk Mittens book...I have Terri Shea's Selbuvotter, though I have not knit anything yet from it. In conclusion (I've been grading too many Expos essays...), I love mittens.</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/6226020518058197034/5048362817535616651/comments/default/7806697543939820398'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/6226020518058197034/5048362817535616651/comments/default/7806697543939820398'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://yardageaknittingnarrative.blogspot.com/2007/10/poor-mitten.html?showComment=1192491180000#c7806697543939820398' title=''/><author><name>The Bolter</name><uri>http://www.blogger.com/profile/13922639556193979137</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email></author><thr:in-reply-to xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0' href='http://yardageaknittingnarrative.blogspot.com/2007/10/poor-mitten.html' ref='tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6226020518058197034.post-5048362817535616651' source='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/6226020518058197034/posts/default/5048362817535616651' type='text/html'/></entry></feed>
